SLES updates on the Filr appliance

What is the appropriate way to keep SLES up to date on the Filr appliance? Should it just be registered to NCC or a local SMT server? Since this is a special purpose virtual appliance, I want to be careful not to break it.

Is it the same for the MySQL database appliance and the search index appliance?
