pure-ftpd NSS volume permission error

I'm not sure what configuration I might have wrong but for some reason when I ftp as an admin user I am not able to write to my NSS volume? I have turned on hardlinks and turned off autowrite in the pureftp config. LUM is working just fine, I even tried putting my admin user in the root group but no luck. What might I be overlooking? I can upload files to the local file system (the user home directory) but I need to be able to read/write with an ftp user to my NSS volume.
