We just had an external mail outage this morning due to our 2012SP1 GWIA segfaulting and staying dead.
A status check on the system showed that the MTA was running but GWIA was dead. rcgrpwise stop would not do anything even when applied repeatedly. Bounced the box and everything came up fine. This OES11 box only runs GWIA on NSS with salvage turned off.
/var/log/messages had this:
Mar 28 0:7:10:15 gw02 kernel: [6975599.907275] gwia[25222]: segfault at e6c000ec ip 00000000f4982f60 sp 00000000f3fcba30 error 4 in libc-2.11.3.so[f4913000+169000]
the GWIA log has these interesting entries in it just before the segfault:
07:05:44 F3FC File open error on file "TempAttachment" in module "GwePutAttachmentBlock".
07:05:44 F3FC Memory exhausted.
07:05:44 F3FC File open error on file "5153ebc8.fd0" in module "GweGetAttachmentBlock".
I can see that the box did not run out of disk, cpu or memory during the time period in question. Any fixes we can try?
