A while back, I came across a couple of interesting applications:
StorageCraft Backup Software for Data Protection and DR | StorageCraft ShadowProtect
And...
Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5 Workstation
They both claim to be able to restore a Windows backup to a new machine, one that is not identical to the original. The ShadowProtect product even allows a restore to/from an Intel/AMD architecture.
Most of the reviews are a couple of years old and cover previous versions. I know nothing about these products and don't know anyone who is using them. While they provide some interesting capabilities, we all know that good backup software needs a lot more than just that.
If anyone has worked with either of these vendors or has any experience with either of these products, I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts.
