Sending DL to outside individual

My boss is wanting to send a Distribution List to someone outside of our e-mail system to be used. I am unsure what his e-mail system is but couldn't find an easy way of doing this for him in general.

Is this even possible? It doesn't look like the exported DL had enough information about the members to be imported by another individual.
